Fall/ Winter 2018-2019 Nail Art Trends

Nail Art Trends 2018-2019

Bejeweled Nails and Fingers

Jeweled nails are nothing new in concept, but the newest iteration of the idea features jewels and crystals of different sizes and shapes being placed collaboratively to accent the nails. In some cases, larger stones are placed alone to create a notably different look worthy of being considered a fall 2018 nail art trend.

Bibhu Mohapatra showed jewels between the first knuckles and the fingernails of the models. It was an interesting look – the jewels used added a bit of “oomph” to the manicured look, but that doesn’t mean that the actual nail art was lacking! The models that wore Bibhu Mohapatra’s looks also had an intentional nearly diagonal swipe of polish with a hint of glitter in rich hues.

Creatures of Comfort showed off larger stones of different sizes and shapes placed individually on nails painted with a background of black. The effect was pretty and the contrast was interesting by itself and even repeated in different colors on the Mulberrymodels.

Just the Tips

Manicures that were really just about decorating the tips were rampant in different designs and even textures. Super long nails with a hole in the tips were on the Gareth Pugh runway.

Pink tips on otherwise naked nails were only the beginning, thanks to fall 2018 nail designs shown on the Roberta Einer model’s nails. Cushnie et Ochs decorated just the tips of the nails with glitter, and Huishan Zhang did the very definition of minimalist with a tiny amount of sparkles at the tip of glossy nails.

Eye-Catching Prints

One of the most talked about fall 2018 nail art designs of the various Fashion Weeks was the neon animal print nails Miss Pop created for Jeremy Scott. One of the “prints” that caught a lot of eyes was the net covered burgundy nails on the Tadashi Shoji runway.

Vivienne Westwood took the eye-catching printed nail trends of fall 2018 and created readable manicures. The different phrases were risqué in some cases but that was the point – done on softly squared tips.

Minimalist Manicure Designs

Similar to French manicures, a minimalist manicure is done with two colors or less and on a shorter nail like the rounded short tips that were very popular on the runways. Cushnie et Ochs opted for nude nails with glitter-speckled tips as the only polish present on softer square-tipped nails.

Tanya Taylor featured two-tone shoes that inspired Essie nail artist Julie Kandalec to create stunning minimalist manicures. Using rich, glossy colors she painted the nails, tipping them off with a miniscule cream-colored tip for a richly colored minimalist manicure. Not only were the richer colors of the upcoming fall season used, but also metallics like silver chrome were tipped with coral.

Accented Nails

Implementing a design on a single nail makes it stand out more, and this is one of the fall/ winter 2018-2019 nail trends for you to embrace. Antonio Marras showed glossy black nails with an accented first finger showing a design of red and gold swirls as an attractive and eye-catching accent.

Michelle Class showed off nude nails accented with multicolored Swarovski crystals on certain nails for Mulberry. For the models for Gypsy Sport, several of the nails were done in alternating colors with the additions of stripes and a harlequin pattern on the first and second nails.

Extravagant Nail Art Designs

Sofia Webster, and The Blonds took the title for most extravagant of the fall 2018 nail art trends. They were still wearable but beautifully embellished in a way that seemed to be created from the imagination of someone with brilliance in mind.

Brilliance in this case is two-fold with the designs being both very clever and glintingly shiny. The jewel-encrusted nails of the Sofia Webster models were intricately designed and meticulously curated to catch the light from every angle and embellish the nails from cuticle to end.

Several different designs came into play on The Blonds runway. Spikes and prints and more embellishments covered the nails, which were a considerable length to accommodate the fullness of the designs.

Manish Arora also featured an incredible design with koi in a Zen pond design on the nail. They could be worn but only to a certain extent. They are, however, beautiful in each of the different designs.

Half Moon Cuticle Manicures

Moschino, and Tibi both showed nail art designs for fall 2018 that featured a natural half moon detail at the cuticle of the nail. On the Tibi runway, the model’s nails were short and the half-moon of the cuticle with a lack of polish, while the rest of the nails were done in a pale pink with an orange red accent color on the ring finger.

Moschino’s nails were medium length, making the half moon design near the cuticle much easier to appreciate. Tom Ford also did the same style on nude nails with a glossy finish.

Fall/ Winter 2018-2019 Nail Polish Trends

Nail Polish Trends 2018/2019

#1. Moody Tones

Naturally with the arrival of the colder months, colors get darker and gloomier both in terms of fashion and beauty. The fall/ winter 2018-2019 nail trends embraced fall’s authentic side by offering up a myriad of darker nail polish colors you could wear with basically any outfit.

Phillip Lim showcased glossy nails in moody tones of dark olive, smokey teal and more. Tanya Taylor’s tipped manicures showed off a stunning cream end on a rich burgundy colored base.

Edeline Love’s chocolate cherry colored nails were dreamily and perfectly deep in color in a medium-length stiletto shape. Tadashi Shoji’s deeply colored nails topped with fine mesh were interesting and just the right amount of gothic glamor that also had a bit of a snakeskin effect to them.

Self-Portrait’s midnight toned navy nails are the closest shade to black that blue has ever gotten.

#2. Futuristic Metallics

Metallics are usually assumed to be shades of gold, copper and chrome. In recent seasons, the rose gold trend really took off, but now metallics of all shades are getting a lot of love as a fall 2018 nail trend.

Cividini showed a metallic olive shade that was designed to match the eye looks on that runway. Tanya Taylor’s silver chrome polish tipped with coral was an excellent choice as well. Naeem Khan really sealed the deal with prismatic nails in holographic blue and green designed to look like the beautiful shell of a Peruvian insect that really inspired him.

#3. Jewel Tones

The fall 2018 nail trends make sure you have enough bewitching jewel nail colors to choose from for the upcoming holiday season and beyond. Rich, refined and kind of mystique, jewel-toned manicure can elevate your looks to impressive heights.

Marc Jacobs’ nail polishes came in 9 highly pigmented and beautifully jewel toned shades that stunned everyone who cast a glance at them. The nail polish shades were expertly curated and coordinated with the looks for the runway, making them an essential for your accessories if you intend to stock your wardrobe with the offerings of the Marc Jacobs fall 2018 collection. Even some of the metallics had a jewel-toned vibe.

Self-Portrait showed off a deep sapphire blue nail polish that was dreamy and nearly twilight in color with a lot of shine.

#4. New Shades of Nude and Neutrals

The fall/ winter 2018-2019 nail trends announce gold and silver metallic the new nude, which is excellent news for anyone who wants to wear something subtle with a good hint of shine. Light shades of taupe, beige and even olive green have made the list with soft, early translucent pinks to be considered the new neutrals and nudes. These nail colors include the universally flattering shades of gray, brown and olive, shades of nude that don’t amp up on the color too much, just enough to be unassuming yet chic.

Some of the newer shades like gray can be seen on the Eudon Choi. Taupe and beige options were included in simple artistic designs like those seen on the Adeam models.

Stella McCartney showed off the light pink that is often associated with nudes as well. Roland Mouret decided to wash the models’ nails in a more typically recognized nude.

#5. Glossy High-Shine Nails

Glossy-finished nails are always stunning and are a welcomed renewed fall 2018 nail trend. Christian Siriano’s stunning manicures featured several different and cleverly beautiful designs that shone with a high gloss finish. The shine only accented the mix of rich colors and metallics.

Phillip Lim’s models wore dark, moody colors with a ridiculously pretty amount of shine. The shine was so clear and bright it accented the range of colors showcased beneath the shine so well that the polish still looked wet.

#6. Glitter Nails

The fall/ winter 2018-2019 nail trends proudly state that glitter nails are in, and since we love all things sparkling and mesmerizing, this is our favorite nail polish option to try!

Cushnie et Ochs showed off a mostly ‘naked’ nail with a sprinkle of glitter placed at the tips. The look was natural, very elegant and not the least bit overpowering, which can be a tough feat to accomplish with glitter.

Creatures of Comfort showed off multifaceted glitter nail polish in a successful attempt to hit (or create) more than one trend for the fall 2018 season. The colors ranged in an ombre style, transitioning from one nail to the other in a sparkling design.

Ivory manicures sparkling with a shimmering finish were seen on the Preen runway for just another cool option to choose from.

#7. Richer Reds

Red is a classic nail color, but any fan of fashion knows that the shades of red vary and even include blues and oranges. Oscar de la Renta showed a glossy and deep red nail varnish. Zadig & Voltaire on the other hand (pun intended) showed nails that were a vibrant yet glossy cherry red.

At the Temperley London fall 2018 show, vampy red nails were back in the spotlight and giving this trend a boost. Peter Pilotto and Etro also paraded the models’ nails in shades of red as well.

#8. Matte Nail Polish

Gareth Pugh showed off extra long matte cobalt blue nails with cut-outs at the tip. They were unexpected and impractical, a very unexpected and edgy look to go along with the unexpected looks and styling of the show.

Stella McCartney also showed muted matte pink manicures that were the picture of understated. It is nice that the wonder of matte nail polish will continue to be a fall/ winter 2018 nail trend.

Fall/ Winter 2018-2019 Nail Shape Trends

Nail Shape Trends 2018/2019

#1. Short and Natural

Many of the fall 2018 nail polish and manicure trends were featured on nails that were short enough to be a practicality, another facet of wearable fashion that is often overlooked. The short nails did not lack artful conception on any runway with incredible manicures and stunning, memorable colors shown in many cases.

Marc Jacobs showed off his new line of nail polish colors on short nails. Designed and embellished options like the nails on the models for Creatures of Comforts and Sonia Rykielwere also featured on short nails.

#2. Practical Ovals

Previous seasons have shown nearly excessively and impractically long fingernails for a while in order to show off great designs and styles. Fortunately for those into fall 2018 nail trends, practical medium lengths are in with oval shaped smooth tips.

Moschino’s models sported manicures designed by Miss Pop with half moons at the base of the nail rather than decorating the end of the middle. It was an interesting take made even more interesting by the length of the nail, which accentuated the small half moons with the oval tips on medium-length nails.

Antonio Maras also showed that designs could be done on medium-length nails that are intricate and deep without losing any detail. Chromat also showed off designs that matched the details of the runway looks down to even the most minute point of interest on nails that were oval and smooth.

#3. Low Square Tips

Cushnie et Ochs featured their glitter manicure on softly squared tips for what was considered to be a more graphic look. Gypsy Sport also showed graphically designed black and white nail polish on short, square-filed nails. Even Han Wen’s glossy metallic and black manicures were done on squared nails. It is a classic shape with a good, clean look that is easy to appreciate.
